[CALIBK12] Budget Cuts

Dear Calibbers,

 

Beverly Hills USD announced plans to cut the remaining two K-8 librarian
positions leaving a librarian only at the high school.  We have (4) K-8
schools.  

 

In 1998, I was hired with three other librarians for each of the K-8
schools after nine years of one librarian covering all four schools.  It
was a disaster coming into a library that had been neglected for so long
but I am proud of the work I accomplished in updating it even though our
average copyright date is still only 1989!  In 2001, two positions were
caught forcing two of us to cover two schools.  And now, if the vote
goes through, there will be no librarians at the K-8 schools at all. 

 

Last Wednesday, the Board held a study session to discuss the budget
cuts and the public was not able to respond.  Tomorrow night, the Board
will vote on the cuts.
