I forgot the mention this earlier... This week we are celebrating Amnesty
Week where I am forgiving fines for currently overdue library books (not for
old fines) We put out flyers on campus and sent out 600 overdue
notices (some older fines, some for current fines or lost books) and they
are announcing it in the morning announcements. Even though I know some of
you are not in favor of fining students, we do and it has lots of benefits:
Students learn the definition of amnesty (per teacher request I put the
definition on the flyer since none of her students knew the meaning) we also
talk about connotations of this word and how I'm using it.)
Physical Science tie-in, we talk about why we have leap year
Lots of books have come out of the woodwork that we thought were lost.
Students are thanking us for being so nice so it's a nice PR move as well.

Just thought Id share. I remember hearing about this idea last year on CALIB
I thought Leap Year was a good excuse for a treat for the kids.
