Demystifying Stats: A Primer on Basic Statistics
http://tinyurl.com/3chjpr

1-hour Web Conference with Gillian Byrne - $109.95

Scared of stats? Assume all quantitative research articles are right?
Unsure how to process all the data that your library produces? This
session can help! Using examples from published library and
information science research articles, this session aims to demystify
basic statistics, covering topics such as variables, hypotheses,
sampling, and statistical significance, as well as basic statistical
calculations like cross-tabulations, chi-squares and correlation
coefficients. The emphasis of this session is helping participants
learn how to evaluate statistics produced by libraries, both
published and operational —- there is NO math component in this session!

Thursday, March 6, 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT
Literacy Lessons at the Library
http://tinyurl.com/2rchlo

1-hour Audio Conference with Marguerite Weibel - $85.00

The public library offers a treasure trove of materials to help adult
literacy students improve their reading skills and – more importantly
– become readers.

In this presentation, Marguerite Weibel will inspire participants to
look at both the adult and children’s collections of local libraries
and consider ways to incorporate those resources into the curriculum
of the literacy program. Participants will talk about particular
kinds of books and then use specific titles to demonstrate sample
lessons. Also included will be books appropriate for native English
speakers as well as for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other
Languages) students.

Friday, March 7, 1:00 pm ET, 10:00 am PT
Top Ten Recommendations for Successful Management
http://tinyurl.com/2p8eg6

1-hour Audio Conference with Julie Todaro - $85.00

Part 3 in a 4-part series. You have just been promoted to your first
position in library management, and there is much to learn! In this
session, Julie will discuss the most important considerations for you
to reflect upon as you forge forward with a strong desire to be
successful

Tuesday, March 11, 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT
Create, Then Integrate: Teaching Undergraduate Research Skills Using
WebCT
http://tinyurl.com/ypy3y8

1-hour Audio Conference with Heather Berringer, Sarah Fedko - $85.00

Better integration of library content into courses and closer
relationships with faculty and campus support services - who could
ask for more? In order to enhance our information literacy
initiatives at Carleton University, we decided to exploit the campus
installation of WebCT to create a portable learning module containing
guides that step undergrads through the research process, from
choosing a topic and using the library, to writing and creating a
bibliography. Faculty have been receptive to the idea that our
research module can support their teaching efforts, allowing us not
only to identify any problems before the module is released to
students but also to discuss the best way to integrate information
literacy skills into course content, making the project about both
students and enhanced faculty outreach. Join us to learn about the
successes and challenges of this initiative.
