I am looking for a quote to use on a local grant. I thought this group would be faster than wading through many reports and articles.
The funding will be used to purchase high interest books and current releases for pulling in our reluctant readers...which will help increase test scores. Unfortunately, this needs to be mentioned for a better chance of being funded but not high on my priority list of goals. Part of the funding will be used for an author, Jeff Savage, to come to every school in our district to give assemblies, do a staff development presentation, and an appearance in the evening at the city library.
What I am looking for is a quote from an article or study emphasizing the importance of having high interest books to keep students reading and coming back for more. Any ideas?
