I make the argument to purge back issues of National Geographic.
History changes, or rather, the way we view history changes. Huge discoveries in archeology, astonomy, and biology, through the invention and application of scientific equipment, are contributing to an ever changing understanding of our world.
In my opinion, today's students should not be learning about dinosaurs from the 1999 November issue of National Geographic, or Mayan Culture from 1980's issues. The National Geographic Society is on the cutting edge of science and discovery. They fund research and development. There is no need to archive ancient copies of the magazine. They are not holy writ, occasionally they are even wrong. Please don't use back issues as reference material for research projects.
Yes the photography is brilliant, you can view it online at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ and can even order copies of your favorite photo.
