[CALIBK12] make up tests in library

If a teacher "surprises" me with a student (or worse, a group of students) who need to take makeup tests, I don't hesitate to interrupt their teaching with an immediate phone call. I then ask them for those directions you're speaking of, but I also use this as a time to let them know that in the future they need to make prior arrangements as most of the time I can't accommodate this kind of interruption to the library program since I'm usually teaching a class, or if it is a period where we have many unscheduled students, I won't be able to supervise test takers adequately. This way, only the offenders are taken to task, and it doesn't give other teachers the idea that this is the librarian's job. This is not to say that I don't frequently accommodate this kind of a request if it isn't going to be a problem. We do try to be a "full service shop" when we can.

When I first started teaching and for many years, I would do a project
each grading period and bring my classes to the library. Through three
Teacher Librarians I would see the struggle with students coming in for
non-library related reasons. Now I am a Teacher Librarian. Don't get me
started, but my biggest one is what we call "PE Meds"...injured students
who cannot do physical education. Anyway, Blanche is right on all counts.
