Subject: [CALIBK12] Books about playground inclusion (playing together)
Hi! I have a request from our school psychologist for a book list about
playground inclusion. We are having some problems with our third grade
students excluding others from play, which is done in a variety of ways.
Some just ignore, others say there are already too many playing now,
some say they can play next time, and a select few actually bully the
excluded students. These excluded students do not stand up for
themselves and find it hard to assert their desire to play, and more
importantly the desire to play with others.
Our doctor would like books she can read to these third grade children,
not just for the excluded but especially for those doing the excluding.
She says she has used "The Recess Queen" by Alexis O'Neill to the point
of exhaustion, and is on the lookout for new, effective titles to use.
I'll be grateful for any title you could share with me and our good
doctor.
Thanks in advance,
Tania Guyer
School Librarian
