[CALIBK12] Replying off list

Carol,

Some questions lend themselves to list-wide discussions while others, particularly a request for resources or help with a technical issue are better suited to the TARGET-HIT format. With the latter the original poster collects the answers and posts one HIT so as not to flood everyone's inboxes with redundant, and possibly unwanted, e-mails. My most recent request for bilingual glossaries is a good example. After a few days I will post a message letting everyone know what kind of responses I got. I received the same glossary from four different people so there were 3 redundant messages. Your message on the other hand is a good one to discuss with the entire list so that everyone understands how we can make Calib more efficient.

Those of us who belong to multiple lists, particularly LM_NET, appreciate keeping the e-mails to a minimum as we already struggle to keep up with our professional reading.

Tony

Comments made herein do not represent the opinions or positions of the Merced Union High School District, only the (sometimes uninformed) opinions of the sender. This message is protected by copyright law, an alarm, a guard dog, a video surveillance system, and powerful magic. If you are somehow offended by this message don't feel obligated to notify the sender of your outrage/anger/hurt feelings. Just delete it. It was probably just a typo anyway. Remember: don't e-mail in anger. If you are forwarding this message to others, stop and think, is this message really so interesting that you want to bother other people with it? I mean really, is the content of this message so profound that it bears repeating? The author is given to long-winded ramblings and everyone I know gets enough of that in their inboxes already. Sure, he's handsome, funny, and a great cook (and modest to a fault), but that doesn't mean everyone wants to read his e-mails.

Subject: [CALIBK12] Replying off list

There are often questions posed to this list followed by a request to reply off list. Unless there's a reason for this that I am not aware of, for me the usefulness of the list is compromised when I see questions posed, but not the replies. I would rather use the delete button for replies I am not interested in, than miss out on replies that I might interest me.
Just a thought; maybe I am way off-base. Feel free to enlighten me, off list or on, ha ha.
