[CALIBK12] Visiting author program?

I'm interested in writing a program proposal for a visiting author program 
for my middle school here in Southern California.   Our student population is 
85% free or reduced lunch, 65% Latino, 20% white, and the balance a mix of 
Native American, African American and Asian students.   If anyone has any 
suggestions for authors you know of who do a combination of assemblies, in-class visits 
and/or writing workshops that have gone successfully, I would really 
appreciate hearing about it.
