Matthew Gollub fits your requirements totally. He is located in Northern California but I have seen him at every CSLA conferences in both Southern and Northern. He uses multi cultural aspects in his presentation as well as music and he does fabulous workshops after his assemblies for kids. He is with Tortuga Press. We have had him visit our school on three different occasions.

Subject: [CALIBK12] Visiting author program?

I'm interested in writing a program proposal for a visiting author program for my middle school here in Southern California. Our student population is 85% free or reduced lunch, 65% Latino, 20% white, and the balance a mix of Native American, African American and Asian students. If anyone has any suggestions for authors you know of who do a combination of assemblies, in-class visits and/or writing workshops that have gone successfully, I would really appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks,
Karen
