[CALIBK12] Is Follett Destiny the only game in town?

Being contrary on most days, I would like to say some positive things about Destiny. I think for large districts it is a good choice. As with anything, it depends on what you are attempting to do. My district with over 100 library sites went with Destiny this year after using at least four different circ systems (all at the same time). The reasoning behind going with Destiny was textbooks. We needed something that could accommodate such a large district with such a large number of books.

Simply put, we are the fourth largest district in the state and have a number of schools with high transiency rates. Our loss is significant. Primarily that is due to, in almost all cases, textbooks not being checked out to students. The hope is that having a union catalog will happen with that.

Would I make a different choice if it were a small district or a one-school situation? Probably. The needs are very different.

Interestingly, the district sent out a bunch of RFPs. The only company that responded to what surely must be a lucrative contract was Follett. The only one. Apparently, it made it easy to choose. :)
