Hi Calibbers,
Despite our superintendent's recommendation to cut us by half, the Las
Virgenes USD librarians are trusting that our supportive parents and
staff will prevail in convincing our Board keep our positions when
they vote June 24. Clearly, though, even if we survive this year, we
have an even bigger job of advocacy ahead and need all the skills we
can get. I was excited to learn that ALA's one-day Advocacy Institute
in Anaheim on June 27 will include talks by the “Spokane Moms” and
three of CSLA's own – Sandra Yoon, Connie Williams, and Sandy
Schuckett. I have signed up to go and am doing what I can to get
supportive parents to attend also. We need to nurture some “California
Moms” to do what the “Spokane Moms” have! Please consider joining me
at the Advocacy Institute and inviting supportive parents in your
district to go too.
The Institute is on Friday, June 27 in Anaheim as part of the ALA
conference, but you don't need to register for ALA to attend. It's
just $50 if you register in advance ($75 on site) and includes lunch.
