[CALIBK12] pathfinders?

I agree with all of the thoughts about pathfinders, and am even adding information from the posts to my knowledge bank. As others have mentioned, we teach the skills of research. Even when including pathfinders (often interpreted as starting points-often web sites), add the requirement to find at least one source that is not included in the pathfinder. This will require that the students understand the process and not just go to a site given in a pathfinder.
Janie seems to be teaching the skills and not giving the prepared list of sites. I think this is what she is using as a "pathfinder." Hers seems to be a path for "how to find it." This type will probably include the important knowledge of the differences between a key word and a subject heading. Without this knowledge there may be many less-than-precise searches. Both interpretations of a pathfinder have their place and are needed in research.
