Right on Thomas - There are many rewards for teacher librarians in inner
city schools.  I cherish my relationships with these students, and treat
them all as valuable.

While teaching in an inner city school is not without its challenges,
it also offers many rewards. You are in a place where the students need
you the most. You are in a place where the library can be a safe haven
for what can sometimes be a scary environment for the students. You are
in a place where you can create and model successful relationships.

For me, I would not want to be anywhere else.

One caveat: It is most decidedly not for everyone. The teachers I see
that are successful are the ones that can create real relationships with
the students. The ones who cannot create those relationships often
struggle. This absolutely does not mean having to be their "friend," but
it does mean connecting with the students on their level. These students
tend to prize highly people who care about them.
