We have a 3M System also.at one of my MS....and have had for 13
years...Our bookcheck machine was taken inadvertently a couple of years
ago..we think some parent group meeting in the library thought it was a
food warmer or somethling..honest mistake..so we had to biuy a new
one..I believe it was $250 or close to it..If that is all that is
wrong...I would suggest you do that..buy a new one....we have chosen
not to have the service contract for the last few years, either,
because of its cost....

Subject: [CALIBK12] Library Bookcheck Advice
We have a 3M security system and a 3M Bookcheck machine
(activates/deactivates the magnetic strip on the books). The Bookcheck
just died after almost 6 years of use. Since we don't have a
maintenance contract (is $1,000 a year), the minimum cost for repair
(just to come out) will be close to $500; a new system will be about
$3200.
For those who have the 3M Bookcheck, how long has it functioned for
your
library? On our machine, the light doesn't go on and the thumper
doesn't work. The power is still live to the machine and the cord is
connected. I've pushed the Reset button to no avail.
It's hard to justify the cost of a magnetic strip activator that is
over
$3,000, and of course the repair cost is not cheap. Does anyone have
any ideas or other products that would work? I've never had any
problems before. And please, I don't need criticism on why I bought a
3M system. I just need so solutions to my problem.
Thanks,
