A solution for Anne and others worried about losing their collection <wink>
(see attachment).
Old fashioned, but it works!
(Of course, circ stats will suffer, but inventory should be a breeze!)
I don't think the argument should be primarily to protect the collection
(although that may be a big and obvious dollar value), but that students
need skilled personnel to train and assist them in finding what they need in
the collection as well as the ongoing collection development and weeding to
be sure the collection remains relevant and useful.

I thought you might find valuable this link to a chart showing the increase
in average book prices from 2007 to 2008. As was noted recently, this
information is useful when determining a collection's worth as part of the
argument that much will be lost if skilled personnel are not there to
protect the value of a collection.
