Create, Then Integrate: Teaching Undergraduate Research Skills Using
WebCT
http://tinyurl.com/ypy3y8

1-hour Audio Conference with Heather Berringer, Sarah Fedko - $85.00

Better integration of library content into courses and closer
relationships with faculty and campus support services - who could
ask for more? In order to enhance our information literacy
initiatives at Carleton University, we decided to exploit the campus
installation of WebCT to create a portable learning module containing
guides that step undergrads through the research process, from
choosing a topic and using the library, to writing and creating a
bibliography. Faculty have been receptive to the idea that our
research module can support their teaching efforts, allowing us not
only to identify any problems before the module is released to
students but also to discuss the best way to integrate information
literacy skills into course content, making the project about both
students and enhanced faculty outreach. Join us to learn about the
successes and challenges of this initiative.

Wednesday, March 12, 2:00 pm ET, 11:00 am PT
Providing 21st Century Reference Services in Your Library
http://tinyurl.com/28a5yd

1-hour Audio Conference with Kay Cassell - $85.00

Competition from Google, Wikipedia and the Internet in general has
changed the nature of reference work. In some cases, libraries have
less face-to-face reference, and many librarians worry that their new
electronic resources are not well-enough used. This presentation
will discuss new reference models to better respond to library users
and their needs, how virtual reference can reach new library users,
how to develop reference collections in an era of expanding
electronic resources, and how to market reference materials and
services.

Thursday, March 13, 2:00 pm ET, 11:00 am PT
Disaster Response: Safety and Security for Libraries
http://tinyurl.com/2dv5d7

1-hour Web Conference with Miriam Kahn - $109.95

Libraries and archives, historical societies and museums have always
been vulnerable to theft, damage, and destruction of their
collections. Our institutions are open to all to use materials within
and borrow with few restrictions. So how do we protect cultural
institutions that house priceless and irreplaceable collections? How
will you protect your staff and patrons from physical harm? This
presentation will discuss security issues for cultural institutions
including examining buildings and grounds for potential risks,
surveying contents and collections to prevent loss and mutilation of
materials, and location of computers to prevent physical damage. We
will also discuss the physical safety of staff and patrons within the
building.

Friday, March 14, 1:00 pm ET, 10:00 am PT
Virtual Reference Competencies: Practice and Expand Communications
Skills and Knowledge
http://tinyurl.com/2amzpq

1-hour Audio Conference with Diane Kovacs - $85.00

IM, email, and chat reference are already here, but have you adapted
your traditional reference interview to these new formats? Learn how
to adapt traditional face-to-face reference interview skills to the
virtual interview—and how to interpret and use new cues (chat slang,
IM shorthand, emoticons, etc.). Find out how to select the best
information format for users and deliver content in a timely and
valuable manner. This three-part series taken together will assist
reference librarians to move from the face-to-face to virtual
transaction with ease.

Part Two will discuss how to develop and/or adapt the good reference
communication skills and attitudes needed to work effectively in the
virtual reference environment.

Monday, March 17, 1:00 pm ET, 10:00 am PT
21st Century Communication for Managers: Critical Issues
http://tinyurl.com/29o3mb

1-hour Audio Conference with Julie Todaro - $85.00

Last in a series. Good communication is the key to success in almost
any relationship in the workplace. The interconnected world of the
21st century offers so many new and emerging ways to communicate.
Some of our current understandings will be as appropriate as ever,
but if we ignore the new and emerging world of communications, we
will be left far behind, and risk becoming irrelevant.
