I believe this note applies if you do not have a Library Media Teacher Credential. If you have a teaching credential you can work in a school library on an emergency LMT credential. However, you cannot work at the district level unless you actually have the LMT credential (and maybe a MLIS?).

Hi all:

Under that same section this manual mentions a "Note: Holders of General Elementary and Secondary Teaching Credential may only provide library media services at a school site and may not provide library services at the district or county level."

So my question is: What additional credential(s) does it take for a person to provide library services at the district or county level?

Thanks,

a

For those of you in districts considering cutting library services, the link below brings you to a CTC Handbook (Revised September 2007) which might provide some support in attempts to save positions and funding. Scroll to section "N" which discusses School Librarian/Library Media Teacher Services. The second page includes Assignments Notes which is quite clear about the need to include credentialed librarians when providing library services.
