SPARC! Transitioning from High School to Higher Education
http://tinyurl.com/374mfk

1-hour Audio Conference with Janet Goosney, Shannon Gordon and Heather
Pretty -
$85.00

In 2006, Memorial University launched SPARC to ease the transition
from high school to university-level research and writing. Based on
positive feedback from student participants, SPARC was offered again
in 2007. The achievement of both years is due in large part to a
successful interdepartmental collaborative team, made up of
representatives from the Queen Elizabeth II Library; The Writing
Centre, the Faculty of Arts; and the Instructional Development Office,
Distance Education and Learning Technologies. Over the course of the
two-year pilot, valuable lessons were learned about program planning,
marketing, and assessment. This session will explore these lessons and
discuss how this type of program, tailored to Memorial University,
could be adapted to other academic institutions.

Wednesday, March 26, 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT
Research Ethics
http://tinyurl.com/3df8ze

1-hour Audio Conference with Dr. Lisa Given - $85.00

This session will explore the nature of research ethics and current
ethics policies affecting projects in Canadian libraries.
Implications for the design of studies using different methods (e.g.,
questionnaires; observation; interviews) will be discussed.
Participants will have the opportunity to review examples of ethics
review forms and discuss strategies for completing the ethics review
process.

Thursday, March 27, 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT
Leadership Strategies for Smaller Communities
http://tinyurl.com/39bd4v

1-hour Audio Conference with Rose Reid - $85.00

An experienced public library practitioner, Reid discusses the success
the Bighorn Library had in getting a new library building. She talks
about the early efforts, the community involvement, as well as the
most successful strategies that resulted in a new building for the
community. Hear about the library’s challenges as well as the
positive relationships formed during the journey toward new
facilities. A wonderful session for the smaller library!

Friday, March 28, 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT
Part Three: Book Repair Tips & Techniques, Hinge & Spine Repair
http://tinyurl.com/3bemwl

1-hour Web Conference with Ken Lavender - $109.95

Librarians and other conservators concerned with preserving their
collections must deal with not only the deterioration of older
materials, but also with poorly made and costly new ones. This series
of four sessions is useful for those interested in basic, minimal
mending, and those that are interested in conservation and
preservation. Ken’s advice will be practical, affordable, and
archivally sound.

Session Three will focus on hinge and spine repair, which are
particularly susceptible to damage from frequent use, careless
handling, and even from book drops. Some of the recommendations will
be simple and inexpensive; others will take more time and consideration.

Monday, March 31, 4:00 pm ET, 1:00 pm PT
He Sees-She Sees: How School Libraries Can Foster Gender Equity in
Visual Literacy
http://tinyurl.com/2m9dqv

1-hour Audio Conference with Lesley Farmer - $85.00

This session explores current gender issues in K-12 visual literacy
education, noting cultural and technology perspectives: the tradition
of male artists and female visual objects, gendered visual codes,
children’s literature visuals, and technology-based art production.
Lesley Farmer also suggests ways that school libraries can address
this issue in terms of facilities, resources, instruction, and
learning activities.
