I will be opening a new library next school year at a kind of unique school: It will be a 4-8th grade school. 4-6 grades will be a regular elementary and the 7-8th grade portion will be a preparatory school that requires the students to be on a contract and meet high standards for continued attendance. We will have lots of technology available but that does not mean we don't need great literature as well!

Any advice (to do or NOT to do!), types of equipment, supplies, computer programs, or favorite books for the 4-6 th grade (this is new to me as I am in a 6-8 middle school right now), would be greatly appreciated.

We are also going to be using Gardner's Multiple Intelligences as key part of our curriculum. I need to not only have books referenced to these intelligences but have the books labeled for them as well. We will also be running A/R as a reading program along with Read 180 support classes for our lower grades. Each of these has to be labeled on our library books..... Any suggestions that would help me keep the spines of the books from being too cluttered?

Looking forward to your assistance...
