I'm sure your district has a hazardous waste policy that mentions mold. I
would have that on file when a parent begs for their mold back.
Worse case mold scenario.--I am not a mold lawyer, but I do not think a
waiver would hold up in court when the parent sells the moldy book on e-bay
and ships it to someone else and it still has your school's name on it.

Subject: [CALIBK12] Policy on Mold
Hello everyone,
Does anyone have a policy in regards to moldy books being returned to
parents? Normally we seal moldy books in a bag since we are often asked to
"prove" the damage prior to parents paying for it. Once we prove the damage
we toss the moldy book. We have several parents upset because we haven't
returned the damaged books they've paid for since they were moldy. We've
always figured the mold is a health risk so why keep it around any longer
than we have to.
If you do return the moldy books once they are paid for, do you have them
sign a waiver of any kind?
Thank you,
Amber
