latest developments in applications for mobile and hand-held tools and
how these can and are being utilized by libraries and information
seekers of all kinds. Come hear what’s happening with traditional

Your Blog and Pony Show
http://tinyurl.com/33gyqe
One-hour web conference with Louise Alcorn - $109.95
Libraries spend a lot of time trying to get information out to our
patrons—using bookmarks, signs, interactions with staff, press
releases and, increasingly, by posting news on our Web sites—with
varying degrees of success. Have you considered creating a library
blog? Louise Alcorn will discuss uses for a library blog and show you
examples of libraries that are already blogging. She will demonstrate
how to create a basic library blog, including - briefly - adding non-
print content to a blog such as images, audio, and video. Libraries
just starting their first Web sites, as well as those looking to
“freshen up” existing sites, will find this session useful.
Friday, April 4, 1:00 pm ET, 10:00 am PT
Virtual Reference Competencies: Maintain and Build Reference Skills
and Knowledge
http://tinyurl.com/25egus
One-hour audio conference with Diane Kovacs - $85.00
Final session in a series: All reference work involves searching,
critical thinking, and information organization skills, as well as
knowledge of specific reference sources and information-finding tools.
This session will discuss these competencies in the context of virtual
reference work.
Tuesday, April 8, 2:00 pm ET, 11:00 am PT
Getting Ready for RDA: Resource Description and Access
http://tinyurl.com/2pbryt
One-hour web conference with Christine Oliver - $109.95
RDA will be the new content standard for metadata when it is released
and implemented in 2009. With its focus on users and their information
needs, RDA aims to facilitate resource discovery. It emerged from a
major restructuring of current cataloging rules, although it is not a
revision of these rules. The very process of restructuring is creating
a new tool. RDA supersedes AACR2: it builds on the strengths of AACR2,
but takes a radically new approach to resource description.
