[CALIBK12] In Search of an Author and a Couple of Great Book

Hello Everyone,
We do a project called Silicon Valley Reads - this year we are expanding
it to include a title for an elementary picture book and another title
for the middle school students - while trying to keep a theme tied to
the main book.
The topic has to do with "Racial Issues" preferably growing up African
American.  
We would love a local author (California - preferably Northern CA).
If you have a great book that you are not sure where the author lives or
the book is so good and you know the author doesn't live in CA but we
still must consider it - please send them to me.
