Subject: Libraries Build Communities in Anaheim: Please Consider Volunteering!
May 1, 2008
?
Good afternoon!
?
I'm writing to let you know of a volunteer opportunity,
offered in conjunction with the 2008 American Library Association Annual Conference:
the Libraries Build Communities project.? This project began in New
Orleans during the 2006 ALA Annual Conference.? That is when ALA
member-volunteers helped with projects related to the damage inflicted by
Hurricane Katrina.? Since then, ALA members have continued to volunteer to
assist in cities where they meet for Annual Conferences.
?
Projects at the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim
include those at elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, a public
library located in a Social Services shelter, and Second Harvest.
?Volunteer opportunities include inventory, cataloging and repairing a
catalog, updating books, designing a bulletin board to encourage reading,
archiving 115 years of high school history, helping with a puppet and craft
show, and food distribution.
?
Libraries Build Communities makes a huge difference to
schools and libraries drastically affected by cuts in staff, budgets, and
supplies. ?
?
To help out in Anaheim, many past volunteers have signed
up.? You, too, can volunteer, if you want! ?
?
The day to help out is on Friday, June 27, approximately
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.? This is all you have to do to let us know you want to
pitch in!:
?
Visit
http://tinyurl.com/3klch7,
which will take you to the ALA page to register online for events on-line.
??(Since LBC is optional, you need to ?add this project to your
registration. ??You can register for LBC on the online registration
form. ??If you register using a paper form, you will need the LBC
"Event Code," which is ?AL3.? The cost to register is $10,
but your registration fee will be contributed to local library funds.? In
addition, lunch, transportation, and a participation T-shirt are included.)
?
By mid-May or thereabouts, all volunteers will be notified
in advance of the various projects and be able to pick the one in which they
wish to participate. ??
?
For more information, visit http://www.ala.org/ala/cro/projectsandactivities/librariesbuildcommunities.cfm.?
?
Thanks for your time and consideration!? I hope to work
with you in Anaheim!
