[CALIBK12] The chopping block

I cringe whenever anyone reports that parents are keeping libraries
open.  THIS IS WRONG.  Besides the fact that no one is actually being
held responsible, parents who volunteer in the library have access to
all kinds of student information, which they should not be given access
to.
My opinion of course, but do realize that if a tech job is eliminated
California Ed Code does state that this position may not be filled with
a volunteer!  This was pointed out to our board when the discussion
arose to eliminate our elementary staff.  Ed code 35021 b

We have 17 elementary schools in our district, and all of them have a
school library (yay!). To my knowledge, the elementary schools here have
never had full-time librarians, yet they do stay open. Some schools fund
their own part-time staff, but most rely on parent volunteers. Of course
the hours and amount of service offered varies from school to school. At
least they do have libraries; not one has completely given up and locked
the door.

How will they keep the elementary libraries open if there are no library
