If anyone would prefer them in hardbound (missions books by Mary Null
Boule), Mook & Blanchard has (or at least, had) them in a durable cover for
a reasonable price. Mook & Blanchard is in La Puente. I think they also have
her California Indian series as well.

I use the Missions: California Heritage series. The are great little books
and include all of the missions. They are in paperback and can even be
purchased at the missions. The author, Mary Null Boule was a California
teacher and did a nice job putting these together.

I always place the barcode on th top right hand corner. It makes scanning
easier. The drawback is that it isn't so easy for inventory. The other issue
(which may not be an issue at all schools) is that they are easily torn off.
I just started at a new school and they put all their barcodes inside the
back cover. They don't loose very many barcodes, but it is a pain in the
back side when checking them out.

Hello everyone,
I have a tricky copyright question. One of my HS math teachers does a
terrific project every year in which students adapt a children's story to
incorporate trigonometry and precalculus topics. I gave him information on
Fair Use years ago which he incorporates in his directions. This is the
first time I'm not sure if a student's project falls under fair use.
This is what he did: he took a Sesame Street book, took took out more
than 50% of the pages, changed all the titles and words. He added
information to the illustrations. His project is in the original hardcover
binding.
What do you think?

What are the guidelines with showing a movie to a large audience about
100-200? Teachers were discussing using a "movie night" as an
incentive/reward for something (this goes for educational or entertainment
oriented movies) and I wasn't sure what the rules were on this. Can anyone

Depends upon where you get the movie. If it is from the local Blockbuster,
you will note on the beginning of each that it is not for large audiences.
This same warning is on all those DVDs you buy at the local Barnes and
Noble or Borders.
It would be a great lesson in copyright if you explained to them the cost
of renting a film for large audience viewing. Some schools do this to show
Romeo and Juliet and it isn't inexpensive.

I found a site where you can get permission to use copyrighted material. It
is copyright.com. I heard of an elementary school that showed a Disney film
and was sued by Disney for it's use. They told me Disney won 1.5 million
dollars. I guess to show Disney films it's around $300 a year for
permission to view to large audience.

Your site must have public performace rights in cases where face-to-face
instruction is not taking place (Section 110(1) of Title 17 of the United
States Code). Movie Licensing USA provides annual (cost based on enrollment)
& one-time ($75.00) site licenses. The license covers public performances
for many studios, including Walt Disney Pictures.

I found a site where you can get permission to use copyrighted material. It
is copyright.com <http://copyright.com/> . I heard of an elementary school
that showed a Disney film and was sued by Disney for it's use. They told me
Disney won 1.5 million dollars. I guess to show Disney films it's around
$300 a year for permission to view to large audience.

This same warning is on all those DVDs you buy at the local Barnes and
Noble or Borders.
It would be a great lesson in copyright if you explained to them the cost
of renting a film for large audience viewing. Some schools do this to show
Romeo and Juliet and it isn't inexpensive.
