[CALIBK12] State Library Survey

The school library survey is now open to collect information about the 2007-2008 academic year.

Essentials to know are:



Survey home page: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/lb/schlsurvwelcompage.asp

Password: @YourLibrary    (That's it, just like it appears with no spaces, two capital letters, and the @ sign. Same as last year.) After the password is entered, use the "start survey" button.



Please take a minute to go there now and print out a paper copy of the questions to use as your worksheet or print out the attached copy. Individual school library data collected are available at the survey site regardless of whether the survey is active or closed.



Reasons to complete the survey and urge others to do the same:

*         Education Code Section 18122 directs local governing boards to report to the California Department of Education (CDE) on the condition of school libraries.CDE created this online data collection survey to meet the Education Code requirement and to develop an accurate picture of the condition of school libraries across the state. (Reason: legal)

*         Annual survey information is perfect support material for the district and site library planning required by the School and Library Improvement Block Grant. (Reason: opportunity )

*         For libraries to benefit from the School and Library Improvement Block Grant, it is essential for each school library person to communicate what it takes to make the library grow and function. The survey provides the basics for substantiating needs. (Reason: necessity)

*         The information collected in the survey is information that should be collected anyway to regularly measure progress. (Reason: practical)

*         CDE collects school library information for the purpose of improving California school libraries. The information is used to show growth, need, support legislative action, and more. (Reason: political)



Please pass this information along to those who may not subscribe to the CSLA listserv. Don't wait until the survey is about to close in April!
