School district briefly bans vampire book from middle schools
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/books-school-series-2175239-district-library
While nearly all the online comments are about the content of the books, which many haven't read, the real story here is the fiasco in CAPO, where LMTs no longer are employed.
With 52 schools and 50,000 students, Capistrano thumbs its nose at WASC, state law and the CDE by employing exactly zero credentialed librarians. This would shut the district down in many states, but this is California where we reward "loco control" with honors and awards.
Thus an employee at the palatial administrative offices ($34 million) decides to ban the books and sends an email.? One of the clerks out there in the schools says, Huh? Don't we have a "procedure" for that? And the books get unbanned, with no comment on what might be next.
BTW -- That $34 million would have put an LMT in every CAPO school for six and a half years.....
Welcome to The OC.
If you dare to question my credentials for remarking on this issue, remember I was LMT at Torrance High for 18 years, where Buffy was filmed.? I am, in fact, Giles.....;-)
