[CALIBK12] databases for middle school

Hello all,

For many years I have hoped that California school librarians would be
able to join a consortium of all types of libraries similar to those in
place in the Midwest and Pennsylvania (of course PA thinks of itself as
being Eastern) and then all funding would come from the state (in
Pennsylvania, some of the support is through LSTA, but most of it is from
the legislator. It's so appealing to the legislators there because it
affects every citizen in the state. Everyone can benefit and it is less
than a $1 per person. Yes, it is through the public library because that
card is available to everyone and not through the school because not
everyone has a reason to go to a school on a regular basis.

School librarians have an access code for those students who do not have a
public library card, but it certainly does rev up students getting their
own library cards. Everyone has access through their public library to the
database from home, office, school, dorm, or wherever they have a
connection.

When California gets this, this question will go away and all those
wonderful databases and other electronic resources will be available
pre-school through nursing home.
