I, also, need to respond to this as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dana has stated the position well. I have read Twilight and have nothing but good to say about it. It shows young people in situations where they have to make choices. Some are difficult, but then you are able to see the result of choices. I have been impressed with the choices and conflict brought out by the author. New Moon has finally come to the public library for me after being #155 on the waiting list. I plan to read it and expect to see pretty good representations of the emotions and challenges of youth presented again. This is probably the reason it flies off the shelves. Some of the young adults and older adults in my ward (congregation) had a Twilight party that was a huge success. They are even lending me a PowerPoint they made for it. I am going to use it when my Silver Tongue Society puts their party on.

I think we are quite open to see what is uplifting or not. I followed much of the Golden Compass discussions and read the entire trilogy. I loved it. It didn't offend me. I think many make more out of some things than they should.

Other than this, we need to be in tune with our communities and the literary value of our selections. We need to choose our battles (some may impact our employment).
