There is a free online index that makes them a little more accessible to students: http://www.galenet.com/servlet/LitIndex
Our juniors and seniors use them once in a while for literary criticism assignments.

"This is the age of the open-source encyclopedia. Words like 'research' and 'corroborated' now mean whatever the majority says they mean. Personally, I'm voting for 'research' to mean 'speculation' and 'corroborated' to mean 'a zesty sour cream-based dip.'"

I am scrutinizing our reference section because it primarily consists of dated material. I have a large collection of the “Contemporary Authors” set. Do any of you find these volumes useful? How are your teachers or students utilizing them? I have never seen a single student or teacher even pick them up the three years I have been here.
