I threw them out years ago, and nobody misses them. A condensed version is available from Gale. It's called "Major 20th Century Writers" and it contains 5 volumes of the most used h.s. information. I don't do online subscriptions because I don't have the money to evaporate into cyber space each year with nothing to show for it. It's a publisher's gimmick. Really cheap for them!

Contemporary Authors is included in the Gale Literature online databases. It sure beats using all of those big vols. I had to use in college!

I am scrutinizing our reference section because it primarily consists of dated material. I have a large collection of the "Contemporary Authors" set. Do any of you find these volumes useful? How are your teachers or students utilizing them? I have never seen a single student or teacher even pick them up the three years I have been here.
