[CALIBK12] AR quizzes for Brisingr and Identical

Personally, I would like to know the credentials of the people who WRITE the
"tests." Are they educators or former educators? Librarians? Or lonely
housewives with no qualifying experience except they are able to read and
make up a test?

Are they testing to see if students read the whole book, or if they
remembered specific things, or if they comprehended some of the higher-level
concepts like theme, etc.?

Just out of curiosity, how many of us have read books and then taken an AR
or RC (etc.) test to see if we could pass it, and at what level were the
questions? Are the questions at about the same reading level as the book
that's being tested on?

Anyway, why can't we have some books with NO tests, just to read for
pleasure?????

So far no hits on the teacher-made quizzes but I did receive an interesting
bit of information about Renaissance Learning and Ellen Hopkins' books:

"They also refuse to write a quiz for Ellen Hopkins' book Impulse. They
replied to my emails stating that their research shows that quizzes on
books such as Hopkins' are difficult to pass - consequently, they are not
writing any more quizzes on books written in poetic prose"

I think that stinks. It is a fast growing genre and Renaissance Learning
should figure out how to write quizzes for them. Maybe if they received a
couple hundred e-mails from us they might change their minds.

Something to think about,
Tony

Does anyone have teacher made quizzes for Paolini's Brisingr or Hopkins'
Identical that they are willing to share? I am stunned that Renaissance
Learning doesn't already have quizzes for these two. Neither title is high
on my "Must Read" list so I won't get around to writing a quiz for them any
time soon.

Thanks,
Tony
