Did you get your preliminary program in the mail? Have you looked
at the wonderful array of workshops available? You can make connections
with two of our newest presenters.
Enjoy Kendell Haven's workshop entitled Super Simple
Storytelling. This is a hands-on workshop that covers the practical how-to
of storytelling along with everything you will need to effectively and
easily make your stories work.
Perhaps you'd like to try Linda Block's workshop, Cover to Cover,
where you will create a variety of books and find classroom applications
and curricular connections for using these creations at school.
No matter the workshops you choose, you will come away with some
new ideas, skills, and friends. Join us at the School Libraries Make
Connections conference in November.

"Strong school libraries increase student achievement." - California School
Library Association
Research from eleven states and over 4,000 schools documents that
credentialed LMTs raise achievement scores anywhere from 8-20%. Support
personnel alone in an LMC do not raise achievement but credentialed LMTs
do. Why? Because the LMT concentrates on teaching and learning rather than
on managing a warehouse. When there is no LMT, achievement suffers its
people rather than just things that make the difference. -Loertscher,
David V. with Ross J. Todd. Evidence-Based Practice for School Library
Media Specialists. Salt Lake City UT: Hi Willow Research & Publishing, 2003.
