Hi collective,
Some wise library science professor encouraged me to make sure that every year I make an appointment with my administrator to go over the work and goals of the Library Program. Each year I have faithfully arranged a meeting, provided data, shared goals, and solicited feedback from my administrator(s). Each year, the administrator listens politely, eyeballs the data, nods their head encouragingly, and responds with a "keep up the good work". Consequently, each year I say to myself, "next year I'm going to send an email that says "all is good in libraryland" and save myself the time.
I realize that part of my job is educating my administrator to the role of the library and keeping my administrator "in the know". This annual meeting serves this end. But I wish that, I don't know, my leader would offer a little "leadership". Am I asking too much?
Any tips on how to engage an administrator in a DIALOG about how the school library fits into their total school picture of teaching and learning? I'll post a hit.
