Hey Calibbers,
Have you signed up to attend any of the CSLA Conference Workshops
yet? Lots of your colleagues have. Don't miss out on these great
opportunities. There are some great presentations that you can pair up if
you want.
For instance, are you responsible for the web page at your
site? If you are you might go to Bob Skapura's presentaion during Session
A on Designing (or Redesigning) YOu Library Web Site. Bob will look at the
good, the bad and the ugly (oh gosh, I sure hope my site isn't an ugly) to
identify what makes a great page design. Pair that up in Session B with
Peter Milbury's session, Connect with the Best of the Best Free Online
Information Resources. You will be able to incorporate all these great
resources into your new web page design. That's a fantastice connection.
Feeling rundown and need to recharge your batteries? Maybe you
should connect Dr. Loertscher's presentation on Linking into the Center of
Teaching and Learning 21st Century Style (on new roles for the teacher
librarian) with Patrick Delaney's Driving in Neutral to find out how to
deploy weblogs, GoogleSite for Schools and Moodle to enhance those 2.0
standards.
There is something (or two somethings!) for everyone at the
Conference. Come connect with your colleagues and comrades. We'll be
looking for you.

"Strong school libraries increase student achievement." - California School
Library Association

“Research from eleven states and over 4,000 schools documents that
credentialed LMTs raise achievement scores anywhere from 8-20%. Support
personnel alone in an LMC do not raise achievement but credentialed LMTs
do. Why? Because the LMT concentrates on teaching and learning rather than
on managing a warehouse. When there is no LMT, achievement suffers – its
people rather than just things that make the difference.” -Loertscher,
David V. with Ross J. Todd. Evidence-Based Practice for School Library
Media Specialists. Salt Lake City UT: Hi Willow Research & Publishing, 2003.
