As a vendor, I just wanted to say that Carol was always available for me
whenever I had a problem, big or small. She always "fixed it" kept all
vendors informed with what was going on.

I'm sure other vendors will agree, that she made the shows much easier.

Thank You, Carol.....I miss you, and I wish you the best....AND......if
you are ever in Palm Springs, let me know.I, at the very least, owe you
a drink!

Scott

Hello CAlibbers;

There simply cannot be enough accolades for Carol Shuey. I
once heard it said that a true leader is one who is so empowering that
others don't realize the magnitude of what the person has done. That's
Carol.

Most of you attending CSLA conferences for the past decade or so might
not have noticed the spritely lady with the walkie-talkie who, ever so
calmly and quietly, was making sure that every single thing for every
Workshop, for every Concurrent Session, for every vendor, for every meal
event, for every author and speaker and presenter was being taken care
of. She delegated with dignity. The vendors respected her so much that
some would not have attended our conference if not for their trust in
her. She "did right by them."

If she is at conference, give her an extra hug. But she needs to realize
in her heart that we all may never be able to truly express the enormity
of the gratitude and appreciation that is due to her.

All of CSLA, whether we know it or not, in her debt.

            Deb Stanley

I would also like to express my thanks and appreciation to Carol for her
outstanding service and dedication to CSLA. I worked as a committee
member on several conference committees with Carol and there is no one
more organized or with better skills. When I was president-elect of CSLA
Carol and the conference committee did a sterling job to bring off a
wonderful "California Poppy" conference. During my time as executive
director of CSLA I worked closely with Carol in many ways and admired
her energy, good humor, dedication, and professionalism.

Thank you, Carol - you are one in a million!

Hello, Calibbers,

Things happen, but I'm sad to lose Carol Shuey as part of the dynamic
planning team for CSLA conferences. She has given so much to the
organization and her salary didn't even begin to compensate for the time
she put in. Thanks to her vision, each conference was a bit more
professional looking and polished than the one before, and she kept
vendors coming back, even in times of economic downturn.

I've worked with her on several conferences, and truly, she was
marvelous, always there to answer questions, solve problems, and
provide whatever help was needed. She stayed upbeat and cheerful, even
when I knew she had to be totally exhausted from the number of hours she
put in.

So, on behalf of all of us who were privileged to work with Carol, a
heartfelt THANK YOU!

	Hello

I have received a number of inquiries from people who are
confused about the circumstances of my departure from CSLA as Conference
& Exhibits Coordinator, Journal Advertising Manager and Job Hotline
Manager.

In May, 2008 the CSLA Board decided to close our Sacramento
office and move day-to-day operational responsibilities to a management
company - Association Resource Center (ARC) in Folsom, California. This
included all of my responsibilities (Conference & Exhibits Coordinator,
Advertising Manager, Site Selection and Job Hotline Manager). Effective
July 1, 2008, ARC assumed all of these responsibilities.

During the months of seeking the services of a management
company, I was consistently reassured that my position was NOT part of
this discussion or reorganization. This turned out not to be true. The
proposal was made by the "Leadership Committee", led by John McGinnis
and Barbara Jeffus. It was not a timeline of my choosing. Contrary to
what was stated by a board member at the board meeting, I have never
talked about retiring or quitting. Working for CSLA has been the most
rewarding experience in my working career.

CSLA offered to extend my job until Dec. 31st but with a
drastically changed job description. I declined.

And so, for those years, those experiences, and your respect and
friendship, I want to say "thank-you". I enjoyed working with so many
of you and I take away only good memories of our work together. I hope
our paths cross again (all my contact information remains the same and
stays with me).
