How can a tiny lady make such a positive impact with CSLA?  By just being Carol Shuey.  When I first joined CSLA and attended the conferences, I didn’t know who Carol Shuey was.  I just knew I was going to the best conferences I had ever been to and knew I would keep coming back.  As I attended the annual conferences, I started recognizing faces and two would always be right there working away at the front desks or prepping rooms or just smiling and talking to people.  Those two people were Bob and Carol.  As I watched them work, I knew the sense of professionalism that came from these two dedicated individuals.  I always thought they should clone these two because they’re keepers.  

            I was saddened to hear that Carol no longer was with CSLA. How could this be?  All the relationships Carol had built up with vendors and members would no longer be there.  The details that Carol poured over the conference from start to finish, checking and rechecking for mistakes so that when it did come to conference time it would prove to be a rewarding and beneficial event not just for the members but to be taken back and to incorporate what we learned back into our individual school sites.  The thought, care and details demonstrated a passion and commitment to a job that was more then just a job.  I call it “making a positive difference in our community.”

            So, I want our community to know that I appreciate the time, energy and commitment that an extraordinary person has given to CSLA.  I want to thank Carol and Bob.  You two have been exemplary role models for me and have made my past CSLA conferences always memorable, educational, enjoyable and an opportunity to bring back to my library a freshness that instills in me my continued love for my job as a library media teacher.
