[CALIBK12] copyright question

I know that this has been addressed before; however, I just received
this email from our administration and would like to respond
appropriately.  My understanding of copyright is that it is not legal to
transfer VHS to DVD for convenience.  Am I correct?

 

"We now have the machine needed to turn VCR tapes into DVD's.  Before we
start to do this project...could you e mail me with a count of how many
tapes you want converted.  We are trying to see the size of the project
before we jump in."
