A Brief Introduction to Human Learning Ecology - Libraries, Education,
and Development in a New Light
http://tinyurl.com/5w3p66
1-hour Web Conference with Elizabeth Dozois - $109.95
Human Learning Ecology draws on the record of human striving,
achievement, and failure across time, cultures and disciplines to
understand the function and development of adaptive intelligence in
human systems. The discipline provides a framework for understanding
human and social development issues at a level that supports
effective, creative and preventive action. As custodians of the
records of human striving and achievement, librarians have a
potentially significant role to play in supporting and extending our
capacity for adaptive intelligence. The introduction will briefly
touch on the role of libraries in the ecology of learning, and outline
some key strategic potential for library service development.

Shaking Up Shakespeare: Contemporary and Classic Young Adult Literature
http://tinyurl.com/6bmhc9
1-hour Audio Conference with Shannon Babcock - $85.00
The wealth of wonderful contemporary young adult literature can offer
fresh perspectives on old favorites, and provide an alternate way into
classics. Many novels now considered “classic” were popular fiction of
their day. They have become classics because they continue to speak to
us and continue to appeal to readers. Contemporary young adult novels
may become classics for the same reasons. Some newer young adult books
directly reference their predecessors, retelling or revisiting
familiar stories. These can be helpful for readers, and for teachers
and librarians using the classic texts, whether in classroom or
smaller book club environments. A complementary current young adult
title can be more accessible than the reading list standard. This
session will introduce new titles in the context of older favourites.

describe in some detail the processes involved in creating a final
product, from the moment an archive chooses to digitize a collection
until it appears on the DAI site. Finally, we will review the problems
we at the DAI have encountered in developing these collections and the
solutions we have devised

Designing the Digital Experience
http://tinyurl.com/6bqjrk
1-hour Web Conference with David King - $109.95
This presentation explains the concepts behind designing experiences
on the Web, emphasizing current best practices in three key areas: 1)
Structure. This is about creating better experiences by improving a
Web site's ease-of-use. Great customer experiences happen when
customers can focus on their own goals, rather than on how to navigate
a site. 2) Community. Memorable experiences are created via on-line
participation and community--the essence of Web 2.0. Readers will
learn how to start conversations with blogs and wikis, as well as how
to use podcasting and videocasting to create a personal touch. Ideas
to jump-start conversations are provided. 3) Customers. Here, readers
will learn how to stage experiences on-line that are guaranteed to
surprise and delight customers. Also included are practical tips on
turning potentially negative experiences into memorable ones.

RSS: Let the Information Find You - Then Pass it On
http://tinyurl.com/5wmhs5
1-hour Web Conference with Wendy Rodgers - $109.95
RSS technology has been around for 10 years. Depending on where you
look, it either "hasn't really caught on" or it is “the next killer
app". RSS feeds are an effective method of what one writer calls
“information trapping.” Another suggests that “as technological
awareness grows [about tools like RSS], Googling anything becomes less
necessary.”
Taking advantage of RSS is now easier than ever. Libraries can
deliver RSS feeds as an information service to users, or use RSS for
professional development and current awareness for staff. Attend this
session to find out what RSS is, how to consume it, how to deliver it,
and how it can benefit your library.
