Hello!

I think is important to adhere to our listserv's rules on not using it as a forum to express our political views. That would corrupt this forum which is so valuable to so many.

I do believe it is important to stay well informed with issues regarding libraries, as I am sure you would agree.

It is with the purpose of sharing information pertinent to our profession that I wanted to pass along the news article in Time linked below.

http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1837918,00.html

According to the article,

"Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor."

I am not in a position to condemn nor endorse this article.

However, a non-librarian friend brought it to my attention and I wish I had read it ahead of time so I could know what he was referring to.

Again, I don't mean to spark a discussion regarding Palin or political beliefs; that would be inappropriate.

However, I do want to share information regarding libraries that may be of interest to you and that may come up in conversation.

Thanks for making Calib such an invaluable resource for sharing information and support!

Sincerely,

Julia Hedstrom
