HELLO CALIB FOLKS!
HERE'S ANOTHER TUTORIAL FROM THE CSLA 2.0 TEAM
SUBJECT: CSLA2.0 TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
School Library Learning 2.0 * Classroom Learning 2.0 * Discovering
Assistive Technology
By Connie Williams and Jackie Siminitus, CSLA 2.0 Team leads
Many CSLA members have successfully completed School Library Learning
2.0, a free, online learning program for CSLA members and friends.
Many more CSLA members have started the tutorial or have it on their
“must do” list. Some who have completed SLL2.0 are now offering the
course to classroom teachers, using the version called Classroom
Learning 2.0.
School Library Learning 2.0 and Classroom Learning 2.0 give you
“permission to have fun, experiment, and learn” about the new and
emerging technologies that are reshaping the context of information on
the Internet today. The free program is built on Web 2.0
technologies such as blogs, photos and images, RSS and newsfeeds,
tagging and technorati, wikis, online applications, podcasting and
downloadable audio, streaming media, and much more.
Little did we know when we first offered School Library Learning 2.0
that it would also become a powerful leadership tool for CSLA members
and teacher librarians across the country. About once or twice a
month, we’ve received requests to become a CSLA “2.0 Partner” and
offer one of the professional development courses to educators in
their district or state. Essentially, the courses are being used by
teacher librarians and district professional development departments
to drive 21st Century Learning skills into the classrooms. How’s that
for an accomplishment for the California School Library Association
and the 200+ members of the CSLA 2.0 Team?
NEW in 2008-2009: Discovering Assistive Technology
An overwhelming number of the 200+ CSLA members who finished “Thing
23” said they wanted another tutorial, so we did some serious thinking
and looking for a topic that addresses technology and student
learning. The subject of assistive technology rose to the top of the
options for a variety of reasons. For one, we like the goal of
California-based non-profit TransAccess, which is to help students
with disabilities transition from school to career so they can be self-
supporting. We also recognize that all of us – of all ages – could
become disabled or know someone who has a disability, so it is good to
know more about assistive technologies. We hope you agree that this
is a professional development tutorial that you will welcome and share
with your colleagues. October is “Disability Awareness Month” -- we
encourage you to work through Discovering Assistive Technology so you
can recommend books, resources, and third CSLA tutorial.
Welcome back to another school year.
Connie Williams, CSLA President 08/09
Jackie Siminitus, CSLA 2.0 Team Project Manager
