Hi! I am currently experiencing a mind block on ideas for a professional day program, to occur between January-March 2009. I am the Chairperson for Library Sciences for the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), southern section. This is my second year of duty, and I am to host a professional development day for school librarians, from independent and public schools in Southern California.
So far, I was thinking of inviting our local bookseller to conduct a book talk. I was also considering talking about promotional decorations and book displays, as well as book fairs as fund raisers. That's all I've got right now. This professional development day is supposed to be all day, with early morning refreshments and lunch provided. I am to charge a fee per attendee, and I have to determine the minimum number of attendees I need to cover the days expenditures, including any honorarium for presenters that charge fees for the services, lunch, parking, etc.
If you have any program ideas or have any speakers that you can strongly suggest, please feel free to share them with me. This program will be held at my school in Pasadena. Once I have a program in place, I will email the listserv the flyer for any of you that might be interested in attending the professional day. As usual, I thank everyone heartily in advance for any help you can forward my way.
Best,
Tania Guyer
