[CALIBK12] Author visit recommendations?

I know we just had this discussion and some recommendations a few months
ago, but I had no expectation of needing the info. Now my new principal is
very much interested in inviting one for next year. We're a K - 6 site with
a lot of low-income families. Perhaps some of the authors who are attending
the conference will be doing visits while they are in So. Cal. If so, please
let me know.

My new principal is also interested in celebrating March as "March is
Reading Month." Apparently this was a big thing back in Michigan where she
is from. If anyone does something special for March (in addition to Read
Across America/Dr. Seuss) please send your ideas along. As most of you know,
I'm already pretty busy in March finishing up CYRM activities, but something
new is always fun.

By the way, the bookmark contest went well. I had four top winners from
which I will make copies to give away in the library, with the nominee info
(title, author, call number) on the back to promote the books. I made copies
of all the bookmarks (about 20 were entered), laminated them on to full-size
pieces of construction paper, and these posters will be on display at the
local library branch during April. I posted them at school today and the
kids just loved looking them over.

Thanks!
