[CALIBK12] OT: TECH: iTunes and Vista update

After following the steps on the Apple website and the advice from several people on LM_NET and CalibK12 it is apparent that you cannot really share an iTunes library among several user accounts in Vista. Apparently this works fine in the Mac OS but in Vista (64 bit, if that matters) whenever one user imports or buys a CD every other user has to manually import it into his library. This is true even though every users' preferences point to the same folder in the Vista "Public" documents folder. Apparently when you change the location of your iTunes library the program only performs a database illusion, pointing to the new folder but copying the music to another location. Or the music is kept in the new location but you have to build database links every time a new folder is added. Either way it is terribly frustrating. The only workable solution for us was to create a generic family login account where we will all keep our music and sync our iPods.
The good news though is that iTunes recognized our iPods without any problem. Many people have reported problems getting iTunes to even see their iPods in Vista.
If anyone has or discovers a way to address this problem please contact me.
Thanks,
Tony
