Conspiracy theories like this are harmful. Why would the government want
to put every educated person in the country on a "list?" Catcher in the
Rye is read in many high schools and colleges in various courses.
The only thing Snopes says about it is that it is on a list that often
circulates - this is the list that some folks said that Sarah Palin was
ready to ban from Wasilla library (also not true.) see

Subject: [CALIBK12] Catcher in the Rye
One of the parents sent this question to me. I haven't heard anything
about it.
Do you know it to be true that if you check out "Catcher In The Rye"
from a Public Library you get put on a list by the "Government"?
I don't know anything about this. I'd appreciate any information you
may have.
Thank you,
Elaine
