[CALIBK12] ETextbooks and Williams

This year we gave students the option of a textbook OR the CD. Obviously, access to a computer was prerequisite. Interestingly, many of the students who took the CD, later exchanged it for the book.

The CD is the same replacement cost as the book.

What a wonderful and interesting question! My guess is that it does not meet the spirit of Williams, but I don't know about the letter. The problem: Does every single student issued one of those CDs have a computer at home? Since Williams is about access and barriers to access, I would think using CDs (in 2009) is problematic.

I wonder if the thought of a CD e-version even occurred to the drafters of the settlement.

Subject: [CALIBK12] ETextbooks and Williams

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if checking out an electronic (CD) version of a textbook to a student equates to having a textbook at home for Williams purposes?

Sincerely,
