Hi All-

My husband is a computer Tech and has had quite a bit of experience with
it this year, though not necessarily in a library setting. Here's what
he says:

Hello,

I haven't seen them in action with library specific programs, but have
worked with/on them as student machines in computer labs and in the
classroom. They are great if there is plenty of bandwidth to handle the
load of delivering an entire virtual desktop to the Thin Client
terminal. They also make it easier to control security- users can't
just go to any website or install unauthorized software. This makes the
consistency between machines much better also. There are no hardware
repairs necessary, as when there are issues, you just swap out the
terminal. Overall, I think it is a good system, just make sure that you
check with whoever is going to host the system, that your software will
be compatible (or that there is a viable alternative). Hope that helps!

Subject: [CALIBK12] QUERY: Thin Client Feedback

Hello!

Our district is looking to changing the computers in our library to Thin
Clients. I am not familiar with them, but have heard mixed reviews.
(i.e. they are inexpensive, but it could difficult to run certain
applications?)

Has anyone had experience with Thin Clients in their library?

I would be interested in any feedback you might want to share!

Thanks so much!
