[CALIBK12] TAR: Interactive Whiteboard Rubric

Good Morning, Alan.

I do not have a rubric to share, but our small private school purchased
Promethean Boards, ActivSlates, doc cameras, and ActivExpression
clickers (individual student response devices) for all of our classrooms
last summer. After a fairly extensive amount of research and comparison
and discussions with reps, we selected Promethean because it is the only
one that was created for schools and continues to focus on educational
use. Most of the other companies have an educational component, but it
is not their primary focus. The teacher training, user groups, and
online resources were the selling points for us. All of our staff,
students, and parents absolutely love the Prometheans and use them
constantly. One caveat - since our boards are new, we have not had any
repair issues, but I have heard that it can be rather costly to repair
them. Something you might want to take into account.

I also have used a Hitachi interactive whiteboard. I especially liked
the fact that it does not have electronics in the board itself, so it
does not require a special pen. The Hitachi board seemed more durable
than the Promethean, in my opinion. Plus, two users can use the Hitachi
board at the same time, unlike the Promethean. But, as I said before,
no one can top Promethean in the support and resources they offer
teachers. Just my thoughts . . .

In the April 2009 print issue of Tech & Learning, there was a four-page
chart that compared many different interactive whiteboards, with
comments from schools that used them. I did not check, but perhaps you
can find the same information on Tech & Learning's website,
<http://www.techlearning.com <http://www.techlearning.com/> >, if you do
not have access to a print copy.

I hope this was helpful.

Subject: [CALIBK12] TAR: Interactive Whiteboard Rubric

Good Morning,

Does anyone have a rubric they can share for comparing the features of
interactive whiteboards and the accompanying software?

We're having seven or eight different brands demonstrated to a district
committee in the next few weeks.

Any "Must Have" features that we should be looking for during the
presentations?

Thanks,
