  Dear CALIB,

  I was asked by George to share the following poem by one of our 8th grade students about books and their impact on her life.

  La Joya Middle School
  Visalia, CA


  Books:  My Passport to the World



  Books are my passport to the world,

  going to places that are impossible to go.

  The forest with Firestar

  to learn the life of a warrior.

  Into the sky, flying with Max,

  to save the world.

  To the world of the gods with Percy,

  the evil of Kronos rising.

  Entering the world of dragons with David

  unlocking the secrets of the world.

  To a world under our feet with Gregor

  fighting for peace for all.

  I walk beside them as I read,

  but disappear as I close the book.
